Kidrobot continues to showcase the very best in pop culture by infusing iconic brands with their designer toy expertise. The latest crossover products celebrate the Playboy brand. Released yesterday (10.9), the two products have very different vibes –The Paul Pope piece seems to be naturally targeted at Playboy fans and collectors while the PEECOL feels squarely aimed at the designer toy market.
Miss November 1978 by indie comic star Paul Pope, immortalizes Monique St. Pierre’s provocative yet mysterious cover pose. Paul was provided an archive of all the Playboy covers and chose Monique’s because of her “radical pose” and her “rad boots”. His design is very faithful to the original photograph. The main stylistic change here is that the figure has much fuller hair which frames her mask nicely. The figure is a striking piece that would probably be at home in a handsome den on a bookshelf with other mainstream collectibles. On the other hand, it would likely look slightly out-of-place in a display filled with say Dunnys. (M!)
