Long time Artist, toy designer, and all around intense dude Jim Koch is featured in a two-page spread in the upcoming issue of Inked Magazine as one of their “Inked People”. The issue should hit newstands and Barnes and Noble this week. Art wise, Jim is best known for his hot rod influenced imagery. Toy wise, the down n’ out clown has to be his signature character whether it’s a three-pack of Trexis or numerous customs.

Amanda Visell’s star is rising quickly — her paintings, production toys, and limited-edition wood/resin
pieces are all in high demand. What about customs ? They’re cool, but she doesn’t do them very often at all. That’s about to change with an exhibition of eight custom 8” Dunnys this Friday, September 5th 2008 at the Kidrobot Room @ CiRCA in Toronto. We got a chance to check them out and shoot them a little while back – and in our opinion they look great. To start off the short week (yes!), we’re giving you a sneak peek at a few of ‘em – more after the jump. In case you’re wondering, Amanda will not be there for the opening but she will be in Toronto in a month or so.

The Great Kaws – Original Fake

original fake

Who is KAWS :
His real name is Brian Donnelly; he’s from Jersey City, born in 1974. He attended New York’s School of Visual Arts and worked for Disney as a freelance animator after graduation. I met him last year at a rare personal appearance at Undefeated LA – the place was beyond packed, and he seemed nervous and shy. If I were to sum him up in a sentance, it would be “Kaws is a major figure in the movement of underground graffiti culture to the mainstream of gallery art and commercial absorption that began with Jean-Michel Basquiat,” which is true, but doesn’t say anything about the content of his work.

First toy released, the Companion, in partnership with Japan’s Bounty Hunter label. Three colorways.
